Recently, it was reported that BYD spent 5 billion yuan to order 8 car roll-off ships to prepare for the future of cars going to sea.
In response, BYD responded. A few days ago, according to Caixin.com, some media asked BYD to verify the authenticity of the above-mentioned news. BYD said it was not convenient to respond to the matter at the moment.
It is reported that this year, BYD has gone crazy "going overseas" and successively entered traditional automobile powers such as Europe and Japan. A large number of models will be exported domestically, which has also created demand for BYD's maritime transport ships.
According to previous reports, BYD affiliates will order eight CEU LNG dual-fuel car carriers (PCTC) that can carry 7,700 vehicles at a shipyard in Yantai, Shandong. The total cost Nearly 5 billion yuan, of which 6 ships are basically confirmed to be built, and the other 2 ships are option orders, which may be delivered as soon as 2025.
The ship price for this order has been agreed upon at US$84 million (approximately RMB 602.8 million) per ship. Some industry insiders also said that the current quotation for a similar ship in the Chinese market is, About $100 million.
In fact, it is not surprising that BYD chose to build its own sea-going fleet. The main reason is that BYD's future overseas demand may be particularly huge.
BYD once revealed that the company’s new energy vehicle operation footprints span 6 continents, more than 70 countries and regions, and more than 400 cities.
At present, BYD has deployed in Thailand, Japan, Latin America and other regions. German car rental company Sixt said it will order 100,000 electric vehicles from BYD in the next six years.
